Senator Liz Boldon’s Legislation to Establish Anonymous Threat Reporting Systems for Minnesota Schools Passes to the Governor’s Desk

ST. PAUL, Minn. — This evening, the Minnesota Senate passed House File 2433 – the Legislature’s supplemental budget package for education.

Contained within the bill is legislation from Senator Liz Boldon (DFL-Rochester) that requires schools to establish anonymous threat reporting systems. Schools can either purchase their own using grant funding from the state, or opt in to the Department of Public Safety’s statewide reporting system.

“I’m so glad this legislation was included in our education budget,” said Senator Boldon. “Families deserve to know their children are safe and secure. The grants and additional staffing for these programs will help ensure our schools can adequately address the needs of our students and respond when students are struggling with their mental health.”

The education budget appropriated $5 million for these anonymous threat reporting systems, and it also contained $10 million in compensatory revenue adjustments for schools. It passed off the Senate floor on a vote of 53-14, and now heads to the Governor’s desk.
