Senator Matt Klein Issues Statement on Senator Mitchell

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Senator Matt Klein (DFL – Mendota Heights)
has issued the following statement on the following statement:

“During the 2024 legislative session, I supported Senator Nicole Mitchell’s right to remain in office to ensure that the voters of Woodbury had representation. Now that the session is over and that representation has been expressed, it is time for Senator Mitchell to step down. She will have the opportunity to present her case in a court of law, as our right to due process affords us, but it is in the best interest of her constituents and the Senate to move forward free of this distraction.  Senator Mitchell cannot participate in committee work or continue her role as Vice Chair of the State and Local Government Committee. She cannot coordinate with our caucus of DFL senators to participate in effective lawmaking. Her constituents, and all Minnesotans, will suffer by these limitations.

As elected officials we have a high standard of trust and responsibility placed upon us, and in serious circumstances like this we must recognize when we can no longer serve our constituents and Minnesotans effectively. That time has come, and she needs to resign her office.”

Matt Klein represents Senate District 53 which includes the area spanning parts of Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Lilydale, the city of Mendota, Mendota Heights, South St. Paul, Sunfish Lake, and West St. Paul.
