Senator Matt Klein Responds to Governor’s Budget Proposal

St. Paul, Minn. – Earlier today, Governor Tim Walz unveiled his budget proposal. In response, Senator Matt Klein (DFL – Mendota Heights) released the following statement:

“I applaud Governor Walz’s commitment to prioritizing the health care needs of Minnesotans in today’s budget. Affordable, high-quality health care access remains out of reach for far too many people, but today’s proposal takes meaningful steps in addressing these needs.

I strongly support the Governor’s commitment to immediate rebates for Minnesotans who are unable to afford their health insurance premiums this year, and long-term premium relief in the form of tax credits. And the bold introduction of a public option for Minnesotans, OneCare, will ensure high-quality health care options for thousands of Minnesotans statewide.

Finally, today’s proposal addresses a critical health issue that Minnesota has ignored for too long. Dental care is essential to overall health, and this budget creates a simpler, more efficient and equitable model for purchasing dental benefits that will improve access to this necessary care for all Minnesotans.”
