Senate DFL Leader Melisa López Franzen (DFL-Edina) today released the following statement on the tragic shooting at a Texas elementary school Tuesday that took the lives of 21 people, including 19 children.
“Tuesday’s mass shooting in Texas has shattered another school and left another group of families and another community to deal with the devastation and loss of a tragedy that is beyond words. And it has shaken millions of Minnesotans and all Americans to their core. We stand with those in Texas dealing with unbearable grief and send them our deepest condolences and our love. Our thoughts will be with them in the coming days, weeks and months as they try to make sense of something so senseless.
But thoughts have never been enough. It’s long past time for leaders in Minnesota and across the country to turn our thoughts and outrage into action and commit to common sense measures – supported by a large majority of Americans – to prevent future tragedies. We will say more in the coming days, but today we are thinking about – and standing with – the families and staff of Robb Elementary School, and the entire community of Uvalde.”
