Senator Murphy responds to Senate Republican statement on public safety funding

Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka and Senator Bill Weber issued a statement calling for the withholding of cost-sharing reimbursements to local governments and state agencies during public safety events that exhaust local resources, including mutual aid.

In response, Senator Erin Murphy (DFL-Saint Paul) released the following statement:

“The dangerous threat of white nationalism that is coursing through America is enlivened by politics that is intended to divide us. In Minnesota, we stick together. Following the murder of George Floyd, we saw peaceful protesters joined by violent agitators who were not from Minneapolis. And as we saw in our nation’s Capitol last month, there is a line that connects dog whistle politics to white nationalism that results in violence.

“Regardless of where we live, in times of trouble, we look out for each other. It is a Minnesota value that we can’t abandon for political gain.”

Erin Murphy represents Senate District 64, which includes portions of the Saint Paul community.
