Also votes yes for the Tax bill that includes $125 million in property tax relief and Sustainable Aviation Fuel Tax Credit
(ST. PAUL, MN) – On Sunday, the Minnesota Senate passed a $1.2 billion bonding bill that will fund critical infrastructure needs across the state, including over $18 million in funding for projects in Senate District 4 secured by Senator Rob Kupec (DFL-Moorhead).
“I’m grateful that we could get a strong, bipartisan bonding bill passed this year that is going to help fund some really critical needs for the area, including continued flood mitigation improvements, the juvenile facility project, and the West Central Regional Water District,” said Sen. Kupec. “Minnesotans expected us to come together, find common ground, and pass a bonding bill that helps communities like ours, and that’s exactly what we’re doing with this bill. I’m proud to vote yes for this good bill.”
More information about the projects is available below:
- Flood Mitigation Improvements ($10 million): Will help construct improvements to 7 storm water/flood control lift stations for Moorhead’s remaining in-town flood protection, which has been in progress since 2009 and is 89% complete.
- Non-secure Juvenile Facility ($1.872 million): Provides funding for preliminary work on the new Non-Secure Juvenile Facility in Clay County to help meet the growing needs of youth residential treatment services in the region.
- West Central Regional Water District ($5 million): The West Central Regional Water Supply Project will provide a new potable water source to the cities and rural residents of Polk, Norman, and Clay Counties. The WCRWD is the first regional water district established in Minnesota since approximately 1985. Its purpose is to ensure access to drinking water that exceeds local and federal quality standards through a cost-effective and sustainable regional water system.
- Lake Park ($2 million): Provides funding for local road improvements in the city of Lake Park.
Senator Kupec also voted yes for the Tax bill that passed Sunday night. That bill included $125 million in property tax relief that will go to qualifying households later this summer, and an extension and increase in the size of Minnesota’s sustainable aviation fuel tax credit, a major win for Minnesota’s growing sustainable aviation fuel industry.
“I’m proud we could pass a tax bill that’s really going to make a difference for the people of the Red River Valley, with strong property tax relief and support for the burgeoning sustainable aviation fuel industry,” said Sen. Kupec. “These are huge wins that will lower costs for families and spur development in this critical industry.”
Following the passage of the Tax and bonding bill, the Senate adjourned Sine Die late Sunday evening.
