Senator Rob Kupec Tours Tornado Damage in Becker County

(DETROIT TOWNSHIP, Minn.) – Senator Rob Kupec joined Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander to tour tornado damage around Floyd Lake after Monday evening’s tornado ripped through the area causing extensive damage to the area.

Sen. Kupec spoke with homeowners whose properties were damaged, thanked volunteers assisting with cleanup efforts, and met with first responders supporting the recovery efforts.

After touring the damage, Sen. Kupec called the Governor, shared photos from the scene, and urged the state to provide immediate assistance to impacted residents. At the moment, it is the understanding of Sen. Kupec that state assistance will be provided.

Reflecting on the visit, Sen. Kupec said:

“As a former meteorologist, I’ve seen the destruction tornadoes can cause. Being on the ground instead of in the studio has given me an even greater appreciation for public service. Seeing families, neighbors, volunteers, and first responders come together to help one another reminds me what makes Western Minnesota such a special place.”

Kupec also encouraged Minnesotans to support ongoing relief efforts.

“Right now, members of our community need help. I encourage everyone who can to donate to the local Red Cross, which has been providing assistance to residents affected by the storm. More information about donating is available by calling (218) 850-7354.”
