(ST. PAUL, MN) – On Tuesday, the Minnesota Senate passed its Omnibus Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate policy bill which included legislation chief-authored by Senator Rob Kupec (DFL-Moorhead) authorizing the use of plug-in solar.
“As rising energy costs are straining family budgets, we can help Minnesotans find relief and a little more energy independence in their own backyard, balcony, or patio with plug-in solar,” said Sen. Kupec. “This is an incredible cost-effective opportunity that would allow more Minnesotans to harness cheaper and more accessible solar power and lower their energy costs.
Plug-in, or as it’s often called, “balcony” solar, is not a new concept, having been popularized in Germany, where it’s estimated that 4 million households currently take advantage of it. In the United States, Utah and Maine have passed legislation authorizing the use of plug-in solar devices, and another 28 states have legislation introduced or being considered to do so.
