SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Former Senate District 44 Senator Phyllis W. McQuaid passed away at the age of 95 on Wednesday, June 7 in St. Louis Park. McQuaid represented St. Louis Park and the surrounding area in the Minnesota Senate from 1982-1990, and previously served on the St. Louis Park School Board and as the first female mayor of St. Louis Park from 1979-1982.
“Phyllis McQuaid was an exceptional community leader who worked throughout her life to improve the lives of her friends and neighbors in St. Louis Park. Whether as a school board member, as mayor, or as a state senator, she never let partisan politics get in the way of solutions that would benefit everyone. The high standard she set should be the standard by which all elected officials live by, and her lifetime of service is a legacy worth celebrating. I extend my heartfelt condolences to her friends and family in this time.”
