Senator Sandy Pappas Advances $1.3 Billion Bonding Bill

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Thursday, May 8, Senate Capital Investment Committee chair Senator Sandy Pappas (DFL-St. Paul) advanced legislation that meets the Senate DFL’s $1.35 billion target for the 2025 bonding bill.

Senator Pappas releases the following statement:

“After many years without consistent bonding bills, Minnesotans need lawmakers to stop playing politics with their infrastructure needs,” said Senator Pappas. “Our state colleges and universities, roads and bridges, and local governments have urgent needs. A substantial bonding bill will help law enforcement protect our communities, fix leaky, freezing classrooms at community colleges, and ensure Minnesotans everywhere have clean water and working sewers. As the federal government throws the U.S. and global economy into disarray, a $1.3 billion bill this year is the most responsible way to finance these projects — even next year, interest rates, construction costs and worsening infrastructure will balloon the cost of future bonding bills. As the Trump administration slashes funds for community projects, we must support Minnesota’s shovel-ready projects and show our constituents that we are serious about investing in our state and our future.”

Bonding vehicle bills SF 390, SF 2827 and SF 2802 were passed out of the Capital Investment Committee and will be heard next in the Finance Committee.
