Senator Scott Dibble Statement on November Budget Forecast

ST. PAUL, Minn.Today, Minnesota Management and Budget released a budget forecast projecting a positive budget balance of $7.7 billion for the current two-year budget cycle. In response, Senator Scott Dibble (DFL-Minneapolis) released the following statement:

“The news of a $7.7 billion state budget surplus in Minnesota is a great thing. It means that our economic recovery from the pandemic is robust and that many businesses and individuals are flourishing. But it is also clear that this recovery is dramatically uneven and many are still suffering the consequences of economic hardship. Our state’s youth are experiencing homelessness at an all-time high, disconnected from their families and communities with no one to care for them. For years, our state has not done what it must to meet the growing need for housing support. There is now no excuse not to act. These young Minnesotans belong to all of us and we must help them grow and thrive. We can end youth homelessness in Minnesota and fully fund the Homeless Youth Act.”
