Senator Simonson Statement on Safer Learning Approach for 2020-2021 School Year

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Governor Walz announced the Safe Learning Plan for Minnesota schools Thursday, providing guidance for schools going back to school using one of three models: in-person, distance learning, or a hybrid model. In response, Senator Erik Simonson (DFL-Duluth) released the following statement:

“Today’s announcement by Governor Walz and our state’s education and public health leaders is the right approach for Minnesota as we go back to school. By providing flexibility for our school districts, we are allowing those local leaders who are in the best position to decide what approach works best for their communities. While each of us want our students back in the classroom, we also know that safety comes first. This plan provides the right guidance for our communities, and helps protect our students, families, teachers, and staff navigate the dangers of COVID-19 without jeopardizing their education.”

Erik Simonson represents District 7 in northeastern Minnesota.
