SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Management and Budget Office projected a $2.4 billion budget deficit for the state’s current biennium according to information released Tuesday. In response, Senator Erik Simonson (DFL-Duluth) released the following statement.
“Today’s updated budget projection makes it clear that the effects of COVID-19 are creating a major challenge for our state’s budget and our economy. There are tough decisions before us, yet we must prioritize supporting all Minnesotans as we face this crisis. Our budget reserves are strong, and though we face a projected deficit, we are in a better position than many other states to face this challenge. Over these next few weeks and months, we must continue to focus on how we can support working Minnesotans throughout our state.”
