ST. PAUL, Minn. — Senator David Tomassoni (DFL – Chisolm) was recently appointed as chair of the Aggregate Resources Task Force, a group that will study aggregate resources and provide recommendations on the following:
- The Department of Natural Resources’ and Metropolitan Council’s aggregate mapping progress and needs
- The effectiveness of recent aggregate tax legislation and the use of revenues collected by the counties
- The use of state funds to preserve aggregate reserves
- Local land use and permitting issues, environmental review requirements, and the impacts of other state regulations on aggregate reserves
“The Aggregate Resources Task Force has an important job to do over the next 18 months, and I’m looking forward to working with my fellow legislators, the DNR, Met Council, and the public in reviewing the availability of our state resources,” said Sen. Tomassoni. “Many of my constituents work in the mines, so we need to routinely review the state and local regulations that impact mining properties and the industry to ensure consistency.”
Tomassoni is the Senate Chair of the Natural Resources, Economic Development and Agriculture Finance Division, the Co-chair of the Legislative Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR), Vice Chair of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB), and Vice Chair of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (MASC).
