St. Paul, Minn. – Senator Chuck Wiger (DFL-Maplewood) today announced his support for Governor Mark Dayton’s proposal to make permanent a previous one-time appropriation for voluntary pre-Kindergarten. If the Legislature takes no action, significant funding for North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale, White Bear Lake, and Roseville school districts will run out.
“Over the years, Governor Dayton has been an unwavering advocate for our tiniest Minnesotans,” said Sen. Wiger. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together, especially our World’s Best Workforce initiative that will better prepare children to reach their full potential. Renewing pre-K funding is a smart investment for taxpayers and it is the right thing to do.”
Local one-time funds approved in a previous legislative session are as follows:
North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale Public School District
Approx. 144 pre-K students
Received $793,533 in one-time funding
White Bear Lake Public School District
Approx. 30 pre-K students
Received $183,886 in one-time funding
Roseville Public School District
Approx. 20 pre-K students
Received $154,800 in one-time funding
