Senator Zaynab Mohamed Statement on Gun Violence Prevention Legislation

St. Paul, Minn. – At 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday Senator Zaynab Mohamed (DFL-Minneapolis) will join families from Annunciation Catholic Church for a rally in the Capitol Rotunda to remember Harper Moyski and Fletcher Merkel, support other victims of gun violence and encourage lawmakers to pass gun violence prevention laws this session.

Following the rally, the House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee will hear HF 3433, banning military-style assault weapons in Minnesota; Senator Mohamed is author of the Senate companion legislation.

“I welcome the Annunciation community to the Capitol with deep admiration for their humanity, their strength and determination to see gun violence prevention laws passed in Minnesota,” Senator Mohamed said. “I’ve come to know these families closely over these past eight months, since a preventable tragedy shook their lives. We will continue to uplift their voices and honor their spirit, which forms the emotional core of the effort to take meaningful action on gun violence prevention. I’m grateful to see bills to get weapons of war out of our communities get a hearing in the House today, and look forward to our work in the Senate to pass those and other bills to make Minnesotans safer.”

Senator Mohamed will be available for interviews from 10:30-11:30 today.
