Senators Plan 2025 Push to Make Minnesota a Leader in Sustainable Aviation Fuel

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senators Ann Rest (DFL-New Hope), Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown), Rob Kupec (DFL-Moorhead), and Aric Putnam (DFL-St. Cloud) said they are leading a Senate push to make Minnesota a leader in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). 

In November, Moorhead was selected as the future home of a SAF processing facility which will begin production in 2030 and create an estimated 650 jobs. Moorhead was selected after the Senate passed 2023 legislation to support SAF.  The Senators are preparing bipartisan proposals to provide tax credits to help Minnesota blend more SAF into the aviation fuel supply, and to expedite the permitting process for SAF producers.

“The SAF industry is ready to take off and Minnesota can be a national leader on this exciting new industry,” the Senators said in a statement released today. “We are hearing from Minnesota agriculture producers – who are excited about new markets for farm products – and from communities that are excited about new jobs that will come from expanding Minnesota’s SAF production.”
