SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL-St. Paul) released the following statement on the status of discussions about a possible special session on gun violence legislation:
“Minnesotans clearly understand that the work to keep our children and communities safe and the passage of urgently-needed gun violence prevention measures isn’t the responsibility of Democrats alone. Republican votes are required to pass a bill of any kind. Republican legislators whose districts support gun violence prevention have remained silent. Their constituents deserve to know where they stand.
My DFL colleagues are weighing their votes on proposed gun violence legislation that will protect Minnesotans. If the Governor calls a special session, we will work to craft the best possible bill, and our members will decide by voting their conscience and for the districts they represent. But no bill can pass the House or Senate without GOP votes, and Minnesotans need Republicans to commit to serious solutions. This is an important moment for Minnesota.”
