Statement from Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On Monday, February 16 the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) announced that the FBI would not grant access to evidence in the killing of Alex Pretti by federal agents in Minneapolis, in addition to the federal withholding of evidence from state investigators in the killing of Renee Good and the shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis.

Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy (DFL- St. Paul) released the following statement:

“This decision is an affront to justice. Blocking the BCA access to evidence denies accountability, deviates from prior investigations and reeks of a cover-up.  It breaks public faith in a federal government they already distrust.

During their two months of chaos, Department of Homeland Security agents shot three Minnesotans, two fatally: Renee Good, Julio Sosa-Celis, and Alex Pretti. Federal agents blocked local law enforcement from collecting evidence at the scenes. Federal officials including Kristi Noem and JD Vance accused the victims of terrorism, attempted murder and a planned assassination. Video and eyewitness accounts have disproven those claims, most recently with the dropping of charges against Mr. Sosa-Celis. Those agents are now on leave, pending investigation for apparent lying. Numerous federal prosecutors in Washington and in Minnesota have resigned because supervisors politicized and attempted to dictate their work.

The actions of federal officials continue to spread like a stain in Minnesota. We will pursue accountability and justice for the harm and loss of life delivered upon us, the people of Minnesota.”
