SAINT PAUL, Minn. – In response to U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson’s announcement of federal indictments for alleged fraud in the Housing Stabilization Service program, Senate Majority Erin Murphy (DFL-St. Paul) released the following statement:
“This is a serious problem and we are taking it seriously. Earlier this month, I met with senior staff at the Department of Human Services to understand how implementation of this session’s anti fraud agenda was working.
While I appreciate we have continued work to do, I am encouraged. We do have increased program costs and inadequate programmatic safeguards and people overseeing our investment.
However, I am reassured by the approach of Inspector General Clark, new in his role. Significant personnel changes and Governor Walz’s executive order this week will help that agency stop fraud as soon as possible. I will continue to work with agencies, prosecutors, experts, Senator Heather Gustafson (DFL-Vadnais Heights), and legislators to stop the theft of money meant for people in need.”
