Tomassoni Encouraged by Governor’s Actions

The Senate Jobs and Environment and Natural Resources Committees will be holding a joint hearing tomorrow to discuss the current state of mining and other industries in northern Minnesota. State Sen. David Tomassoni, DFL – Chisholm, said he was happy to see that the jobs and natural resources committees are meeting at the Hibbing Community College.
“Educating the committee about mining will be a great opportunity for us with so many new members in the Legislature,” said Sen. Tomassoni. “The mining industry is the backbone of our economy and the more people who understand its significance the better.”
Sen. Tomassoni is also ready to discuss Gov. Dayton’s Executive Order to speed up the agencies response time to environmental permitting requests.
“I am sure we will discuss the Executive Order signed by Gov. Dayton at the meeting. The Governor’s willingness to take action regarding the turnaround time of environmental permitting will help our area by notifying companies of their permitting status in a timelier manner. Hopefully, the result will be job opportunities sooner.”
The public is encouraged to attend on Friday. The meeting will start at 2:00 p.m. and will take place at Hibbing Community College.
