SAINT PAUL, Minn. – A historic increase in funding for Minnesota’s courts and public safety needs moved forward Wednesday, as the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee’s $880 million omnibus budget bill passed out of committee. The budget is a well-balanced, fair, and objective proposal according to Judiciary and Public Safety Committee Chair Senator Ron Latz (DFL-St. Louis Park).

Senator Sandra Pappas Ushers Bill to Fund Violence Prevention Research Through Judiciary and Public Safety Committee

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee heard testimony on a bill (SF 412) that would give one-time funds to The Violence Project, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research center based in Minnesota and dedicated to reducing violence in society. Chief author Senator Sandra Pappas (DFL-St. Paul) testified in support of the bill alongside the co-founders of The Violence Project.

Two of Senator Heather Gustafson’s Public Safety Bills Heard in Judiciary and Public Safety Committee

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Friday, the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee heard two of Senator Heather Gustafson’s (DFL-Vadnais Heights) public safety bills. SF 1475 offers funding to services to support victims of sexual assault, crime, domestic violence, and child abuse. Senate ‘Trans Refuge’ Bill Receives First Hearing

ST. PAUL, Minn. — On Friday, the Judiciary and Public Safety Committee heard SF 63, a bill that would offer protections to individuals and families who come to Minnesota seeking gender-affirming healthcare, and it protects medical professionals who provide that care. Chief author Senator Erin Maye Quade (DFL-Apple Valley) spoke alongside advocates, young people, and legal and medical professions who support the bill, as well as Rep. Leigh Finke (DFL-St. Paul), the chief author of the House version of the bill.
