Tax Relief for Families, Students, Farmers

The Omnibus Tax Bill expands tax credits for working families, helps ease the growing burden of student loan payments, and delivers property tax relief to farmers and small businesses across Minnesota. The bill passed the Minnesota Senate today with a bipartisan vote of 55-12; its next stop is the governor’s desk. Sen. Rod Skoe (DFL-Clearbrook) authored the omnibus bill as chair of the Senate Tax Committee.

Senate Tax Chairs on Conference Committee Proposal

Members of the Minnesota Senate and House met today in a conference committee to discuss a joint proposal for a tax omnibus bill. The proposal provides $258 million in tax relief for Minnesotans and their families, and helps combat the growing burden of student debt. Several priorities of the Senate DFL Caucus are found in the conference committee agreement, including an expansion of the Working Family Credit, property tax relief, and a student loan payment tax credit.

Supplemental Tax Omnibus Includes Tax Relief for Families

The Senate supplemental omnibus tax bill (H.F. 3931) provides tax relief for working families, helps combat the growing burden of student debt, and creates a new paid leave program for state workers. The bill, authored by Sen. Rod Skoe (DFL-Clearbrook), passed the Senate on a vote of 37-30 Wednesday.

Senate DFL Caucus Releases 2016 Budget Targets

Senate Finance Committee Chair Sen. Richard Cohen (DFL-St. Paul), Senate Tax Committee Chair Sen. Rod Skoe (DFL-Clearbrook), Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk (DFL-Cook), Senate Assistant Majority Leader Katie Sieben (DFL-Cottage Grove), and Senate Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Hayden (DFL-Minneapolis) have released the 2016 budget targets for the Minnesota State Senate. Senate DFL Budget targets reflect the stated priorities of the Senate DFL Caucus: investing in transportation, building Minnesota, expanding education opportunities, and supporting equity for workers and families.
