With only a few days left until the end of session, negotiations continue to take place to finalize budget targets. One of the major pieces left up for discussion is a final transportation package. While the Senate, House, and Governor have committed to transportation plans, how a final bill could look remains up in the air.
The Senate and Governor continue to press forward with a comprehensive budget bill that includes dedicated and sustainable funding for the state’s transportation network. The House plan relies on shifts and gimmicks, and relies on an unpredictable funding stream. As any transportation project must have a long-term focus, it will be difficult to commit to funding future projects using the House plan.
It is clear Minnesotans expect and deserve a transportation network that works for all communities. The Senate plan delivers on this promise.
