SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Senator Melissa Wiklund, DFL-Bloomington, released the following statement in response to the new Senate Republican insulin proposal. Sen. Wiklund is the chief author of the Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act in the Minnesota Senate.
“We want people in crisis to face as few barriers as possible to access life-saving medications,” said Wiklund. “While I’m glad to see Senate Republicans have changed their position on asking manufacturers to participate in a solution to the insulin crisis, this new proposal will not ensure people have a supply of insulin when it’s most critical.”
“We will continue to work with bipartisan lawmakers and advocates to find an answer for Minnesotans who need immediate access to life-saving insulin,” continued Wiklund. “Any solution must include the input of those Minnesotans with diabetes who are directly affected by barriers to life-saving health care. I look forward to continuing our community listening tonight in Richfield and at next week’s public hearings. We need to find a real solution for Minnesotans who just can’t wait when every minute counts.”
